IVF Support

At AcuLife we offer a number of different acupuncture programs for IVF support designed to:

Over half of our patients are currently with the Cork Fertility Clinic. Preparing properly for assisted fertility treatments is even more important than if you are trying for a baby naturally. Our clinic supports numerous IUI preparation treatments, Pre and Post IVF transfer treatments every week. We recommend that you have an acupuncture treatment three to five days after egg collection to help prepare a calm environment.

Embarking on IVF can be very demanding and stressful. Our experience has shown that the right physical, nutritional, and emotional support before and during the treatment can help to remove these stresses and strains and enhance your overall well-being. We will help keep you positive and in the right mind-set.

Our acupuncture treatment plans are based on evidence-based protocols and range from preconception programs, to pre and post treatments on the day of embryo transfer, to a course of treatment leading up to IVF transfer and continuing after to ensure a health pregnancy. Our acupuncture treatment protocols are based on those used by Dr Randine Lewis, author of ‘The Infertility Cure’, the world stardards of ‘The Clinical Excellence in Fertility Program’ and the Zita West Clinic in
the United Kingdom. These protocols are unique to our clinic and our most recent audit of our own success rates since late 2007 has shown that having acupuncture at our clinic pre and post embryo transfer resulted in a mean pregnancy rate per IVF cycle of almost 60%.

Research shows how valuable having acupuncture pre and post embryo transfer can be. A recent meta-analysis (Manheimer E), published by the British Medical Journal in February 2008, suggests that women undergoing IVF, who also have acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer, have a substantially higher chance of conceiving than those who have no acupuncture.

We usually recommend that clients  start with an "IVF Support Consultation" with one of our consultant acupuncturists. We will recommend a personalised plan of the things that can be done for you and your partner to help your chances of conceiving successfully.

Ideally, we like to see you at least three months before your IVF cycle is due to begin. However, there are still plenty of useful things we can do to help if the interval is shorter.

Treatment: Pre IVF Treatment Protocol

This will require two treatments. Your first acupuncture treatment before transfer is 40 minutes long. Your second treatment occurs after transfer and  is about 30 minutes.

Cost:

Before or after embryo transfer: One treatment 60 euro.
Before and after embryo transfer: Two treatments 100 euro.

Treatment: Pre Conception Protocol

You will require one treatment  per week over a period of 8 weeks before egg retrieval plus treatment at the time of embryo transfer.

Cost:

Initial consultation and first treatment: 120euro.
Treatments: Cost per treatment 50 euro.
